Car Consciousness

Cars are not only the biggest consumer purchase that is made, but they are bought more often than most other major purchases for the household. Not so long ago, nearly four in ten Americans were thinking about buying a car. Now, buying plans for cars are substantially lower. The monthly study of the automotive market by Leo J. Shapiro & Associates has seen a gradual and recently accelerating decline in the number of Americans thinking about purchasing a car. In 1994, 38% of households said they were planning to buy a car within the coming months. In 2007, so far, this percentage stands at 28%, a more than one fourth decline in buying plans.
