Retail Research and Consulting Services

LJS has developed unique insights into the competitive marketplace. We identify opportunities and solutions to create sustainable market advantages. Some of our accomplishments include:

  • Development of the supermarket and combination drug-food store including Jewel Food Stores, HEB, Wegman’s, and Publix
  • Identifying sustainable niches for high end department store and specialty formats, including Neiman Marcus, The Limited and The May Department Store Company
  • Assisting in e-commerce and brick and mortar stores, including work for Toys R Us, Circuit City, Ameritrade and Sam’s Club
  • Development of the large box specialty format, including initial stage launch and ongoing research for Staples, Toys R Us, Sports Authority and PETsMart

We have also developed a proprietary set of analytic tools that measure performance relative to the competitive set that exists in the mind of the consumer.  LJS retail tools include multidimensional reputational indices and behavioral market share measurements.  In addition, the LJS Natural Share Model™, is the share a chain “earns” by virtue of its store coverage and reputation relative to competition. The LJS Natural Share Model™ not only provides a current view of a retailer’s performance but can also be used to predict the impact of financial investment in facilities, products, or services to maximize ROI while maintaining the retailer’s culture and unique position in its marketplace.
