Everyone who works at LJS is, first and foremost, a researcher. Our executives like to dig into a research project just like the rest of us. They work closely with all our staff—whether their tenure is 30 years or 30 days. And they are in it for the long haul. Phil, Matthew, and Owen each began with LJS over 20 years ago, beginning as entry-level researchers who honed their craft under the watchful tutelage of the company founders. When George and Leo were ready to pass the baton, they left the company in good hands. |
Philip JohnsonPhil Johnson began his career at LJS in 1971, where he worked part-time while finishing his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Loyola University in Chicago. This exposure to the world of behavioral market research profoundly influenced the course of his career, moving him from a focus on individuals to the broader behavioral world where the entire population is available for study. After graduating, Phil lived and learned the art and craft of market research under the watchful guidance of Drs. Leo Shapiro, Phillip Hauser, demographer and founder of the University of Chicago’s Population Research Center, and Hans Zeisel, professor of Law and Sociology at the University of Chicago. Always forward-thinking, Phil has kept the firm at the forefront of technological advances and innovative research methods. Over the past thirty-five years, Phil has designed and administered hundreds of studies measuring consumer behavior and opinion. While he has worked on behalf of clients in nearly all industries, he has developed considerable expertise in retail, and in the design and conduct of surveys for intellectual property litigation. Phil has offered survey-based expert opinion in Federal and State courts and other forums including the Federal Trade Commission and the United States Patent & Trademark Office. He also conducts seminars on the utilization of survey methodologies in the corporate and intellectual property arenas. In addition to a B.S. in Psychology from Loyola University, Phil holds an M.B.A from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago. Phone: 312.321.8115 |
